Kevin
is actively involved with the arts community in the Bancroft, Ontario
region. In the past few years he has gained a reputation of being
a dedicated volunteer on numerous arts projects and initiatives. Below
is a brief outline of some of his involvement in the arts community.
Algonquin
Arts Council
After serving a year as Vice President of the Algonquin Arts
Council, Kevin was elected to be President in September of 2003. The
AAC is an umbrella organization for eleven separate committees; Bancroft
Art Gallery, Village Playhouse, Performing Arts Bancroft, Bancroft
Theatre Guild, School Arts Council, Arts Festival - Bancroft, York
River Festival - Where the Words Are, Bancroft & Area Arts and
Crafts Guild, November Theatre, Centre Hastings Arts Council and the North Hastings Community Choir.
These groups of volunteers work diligently to provide a strong arts
community in and around the Bancroft area and are committed to keeping
the arts alive in the community. Kevin served as President of the AAC for four years.
Arts Festival - Bancroft
Kevin spent two years as chair of the Arts Festival Committee.
August 19-20, 2006 will mark the third annual multidisciplinary festival
featuring all forms of art being displayed and performed in Millenium
Park, downtown Bancroft.
The Festival Committee is working hard preparing for this event, that
showcases the talents of hundreds of local artists. Arts Festival
- Bancroft is well-attended by visitors, cottagers and local residents.
This annual event not only promotes our artists, but provides a wonderful
tourism destination for visitors throughout Ontario. Kevin is no longer chair of the committee, but is actively involved in its promotion, the music program and performing.
Area Arts Column - Bancroft This Week Newspaper
Kevin wrote the arts column for Bancroft This
Week for three years. His column featured an in-depth look
into a different artist or arts group.
These five-hundred plus word articles and photos have been well received
by the community and many artists have found them to be quite beneficial
to the promotion of their works.
All areas of art were covered in the columns and although Kevin has ceased to write regularly he will probably move in that direction again in the future.
